How to turn a Word document into an EPUB
Drop your Word file (.docx) on the box, check the title, author and chapters, add a cover if you have one, and download your EPUB. It all happens in your browser.
Set up your Word file first
A few minutes in Word makes a much better ebook:
- Use Heading 1 for chapter titles. Select each title and pick Heading 1 from the Styles menu. That’s how the converter finds chapters and builds the table of contents.
- Use Heading 2 for sections inside chapters.
- Use the Title style for the book title on the first page, and Subtitle for the subtitle.
- Use Word’s list buttons for bullets and numbered steps, not typed dashes.
- Remove manual page breaks and blank lines used for spacing. Ebooks reflow, so spacing tricks don’t survive.
- Skip headers, footers and page numbers. E-readers don’t have pages, so they’re left out.
Older .doc files need saving as .docx first (File › Save As). The EPUB you get works on Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo and Google Play. Run it through the EPUB checker, then follow our guide to publishing on Amazon KDP.

Is my document uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted by your browser, on your computer. Nothing is uploaded to Koobe or anywhere else, so it works for unpublished manuscripts too.
Does it work with Google Docs or Pages?
Yes, through a .docx copy. Google Docs: File › Download › Microsoft Word. Apple Pages: File › Export To › Word.
Can I upload a Word file straight to KDP instead?
Yes, KDP accepts .docx. An EPUB is still worth making: you can check it before you publish, and the same file works for Apple Books, Kobo and Google Play.
What happens to my fonts?
They’re left out on purpose. Ebook readers let each reader choose the font and size, so the EPUB keeps your text, headings and emphasis rather than the look of the page.
