EPUB Editor
Change your EPUB’s cover, details, chapters and text in your browser, then download a checked copy.
Use it only on books you own or have the right to edit. Files protected with DRM can’t be opened.
How to use the EPUB editor
- Open your EPUB. Drop the file on the box or click to choose it. It opens in your browser, up to 100 MB, and nothing is uploaded.
- Make your changes. Each tab handles one job: Details (title, authors, description), Cover, Chapters, Text, Find and replace, and Contents (the table of contents). Save each change as you go.
- Preview it. See any chapter at phone, tablet or desktop width, with a text size slider.
- Check and download. The editor runs our EPUB checker on the edited file, shows how many issues it had before and has now, and lets you download it as a new file ending in -edited.epub.
Use it only on books you own or have the right to edit. Keep your original file until you’ve checked the new one.
What you can change in an EPUB
An EPUB is a ZIP archive of web pages, images and a few small files that describe the book. The editor changes those files for you, and leaves every file you don’t touch exactly as it was.
- Details. Title, authors and their roles (author, editor, illustrator, translator), language, publisher, date, description, subjects and, in EPUB 3, the series and its number. Details the editor doesn’t show are kept.
- Cover. Swap the cover image for a JPEG or PNG. The editor shows its size against each store’s rules, using the same checks as our ebook cover size guide. If the image type changes, the file name and every link to it are updated.
- Chapters. Reorder, rename, delete or add a blank chapter. Deleting a chapter offers to remove images and files nothing else uses.
- Text. Edit a chapter visually, with bold, italic, headings, lists and links, or as source XHTML. Classes, ids and EPUB types are kept, and anything pasted in is cleaned of scripts and files from the internet.
- Find and replace. Across the whole book, with match case and whole word options, a list of every match first, and an undo. It changes text only, never tags or attributes.
- Table of contents. Edit, reorder and nest entries, or rebuild it from your chapter headings. The EPUB 3 navigation document and the older NCX are kept in step.
Fixed-layout EPUBs, like picture books and comics, can have their details and cover edited, but not their text. To turn a Word, PDF or Markdown file into an EPUB, use the Word to EPUB, PDF to EPUB or Markdown to EPUB converters instead.
Check your EPUB before you publish
Before the download, the editor checks the edited file for the problems stores reject EPUBs for most often: the mimetype file, the package and its required details, missing or unlisted files, the table of contents, broken links and markup errors. It writes the file the way stores expect, with the mimetype entry first and uncompressed. Warnings never block the download.
That check isn’t a full validation. Before you upload, run EPUBCheck, the official validator, and open the book in Kindle Previewer if you publish on Amazon. Each store has its own rules:
- Amazon KDP asks for EPUB, DOCX or KPF files for reflowable ebooks. See how to publish an ebook on Amazon KDP.
- Apple Books supports EPUB 3.3 and earlier EPUB 3 files. See how to publish a book on Apple Books.
- Google Play Books accepts EPUB 3.3, EPUB 3 and EPUB 2, prefers 3.3 and doesn’t run JavaScript. See how to publish a book on Google Play Books.

EPUB editor examples
Change the cover and title on a finished ebook
Open the EPUB, type the new title under Details and save, then replace the cover with your new JPEG under Cover. When the old cover was also a JPEG, it keeps its file name, so nothing else needs to change. Check and download lists the changes as “Details updated, Cover replaced”.
Fix a typo in chapter 3 and replace a word across the whole book
Under Text, pick chapter 3, fix the typo and save the chapter. Then, under Find and replace, search for the old word with Whole words on, read the list of matches, and replace them all. Changes reads like “1 chapter edited, 14 replacements”, and Undo puts the last replace back.
Update the author name and description before uploading to a store
Under Details, change the author’s name, keep the Author role, paste in the new description and save. The editor updates the package file and, for EPUB 3, the last-modified date. Then check the file and download it, ready to upload with the matching details in your store listing.
EPUB editor FAQ
First book free · No card needed · Cancel anytime
Is the EPUB editor free?
Yes. There’s no sign up and no limit on how many books you edit. It opens EPUBs up to 100 MB.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The EPUB opens and is edited in your browser, and the new file is made there too. Nothing you open or type is uploaded or stored by Koobe.
Can I change the cover of an EPUB?
Yes. Under Cover, replace the image with a JPEG or PNG. The editor shows its size against Amazon, Apple, Kobo and Google’s cover rules, and updates the file name and links if the image type changes. Stores also ask for the cover separately when you upload, so use the same image there.
Will editing break my EPUB?
It’s built not to. Files you don’t change are kept exactly as they were, a chapter’s source won’t save if its XHTML is broken, and the table of contents is kept in step when you move or delete chapters. Before you download, the editor checks the new file and compares the issue count with the original. Keep your original file until you’ve checked the new one.
Can I edit an EPUB that has DRM?
No. Files protected with DRM can’t be opened here, and the editor doesn’t remove or get around protection. Only edit books you own or have the right to edit. EPUBs whose only protection is font obfuscation, which isn’t DRM, open normally.
Which EPUB versions does it support?
EPUB 3, including EPUB 3.3 (a W3C Recommendation since January 2026), and EPUB 2. The editor keeps the version the book already has and doesn’t upgrade EPUB 2 files. Fixed-layout EPUBs can have their details and cover edited, but not their text.
Will stores accept an EPUB I edited here?
We can’t promise that, because each store checks files in its own way. Amazon KDP asks for EPUB, DOCX or KPF files for reflowable ebooks, Apple Books supports EPUB 3.3 and earlier EPUB 3, and Google Play Books accepts EPUB 3.3, EPUB 3 and EPUB 2 with no JavaScript. Run EPUBCheck and preview the file in the store’s own tools before you publish.
