How to convert DOCX to EPUB
- Drop your .docx file on the box. It’s read in your browser.
- Check the title, subtitle, author and language, and the list of chapters the converter found.
- Add a cover image if you have one (JPEG or PNG), then click Download EPUB.
How your document becomes an ebook
The converter reads the structure Word already knows about:
- Headings become chapters. The highest heading level used more than once (usually Heading 1) starts each chapter, and the levels below become section headings. Lines like “Chapter 3: Pricing” work too.
- Word’s Title and Subtitle styles fill in the book’s title and subtitle.
- Bold, italics, bulleted and numbered lists, links and images carry over. Tables become one line per row.
- Fonts, colours and page layout don’t. EPUB is reflowable: readers choose the font and size, and the text flows to fit their screen.
The result is an EPUB 3 file with a table of contents, a title page and your cover, which Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo and Google Play Books all accept. KDP can also take a .docx directly; converting first lets you check the result and use the same file in every store. Check it with the EPUB checker before you upload.

A manuscript with Heading 1 chapters
Each Heading 1 becomes a chapter in the table of contents, and Heading 2s become sections inside it.
A document without headings
Short books become one chapter; long ones are split at about every 3,000 words. For real chapters, apply Heading 1 to each chapter title in Word first.
A workbook with screenshots
Images are packed into the EPUB in their original format, with any alt text you set in Word.

Is my document uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted by your browser, on your computer. Nothing is uploaded to Koobe or anywhere else, so it works for unpublished manuscripts too.
Can I convert a .doc file?
Not directly. Open it in Word and use File › Save As › Word Document (.docx), then convert the .docx.
Why is everything in one chapter?
The converter finds chapters from Word headings. Select each chapter title and apply the Heading 1 style, then convert again.
Will the EPUB work on Kindle?
Yes. KDP accepts EPUB uploads for Kindle ebooks, and so do Apple Books, Kobo and Google Play Books.
