KENP Calculator
Estimate your Kindle Unlimited earnings from KENP pages read, and compare them with ebook sales.
Estimates only. Amazon sets the KENP rate each month and each book’s KENPC, and pays only for pages read the first time. Rules from KDP’s Kindle Unlimited royalties page, checked 2026-10-04. Other currencies are shown without conversion.
How to use the KENP calculator
- Add your KENP rate. Amazon sets it every month, and KDP shows it in your Royalties Estimator (KDP Reports > Royalties Estimator) after the monthly fund announcement.
- Pick what you know. Pages read, if you have them from your reports. Or readers, your book's KENPC and how much of it they read. Or just a word count, to get a rough KENPC before you publish.
- Read the estimate, per month and per year. Add a price to compare page reads with ebook sales.
Every result is an estimate. Amazon sets both the rate and your book's page count.
What KENP and KENPC mean
KENP stands for Kindle Edition Normalized Pages. It's how Amazon counts pages read by Kindle Unlimited readers, using standard settings for font, line height and spacing, so a page means the same thing on every device.
KENPC is your book's Kindle Edition Normalized Page Count: its total length in those pages. Amazon works it out from your book when you enroll it in KDP Select. It counts from where the book starts (usually chapter 1) to the end, and images, charts and graphs count too. You'll find it on the Promote and Advertise page in your Bookshelf. It can differ from the page count on your Amazon page, which comes from other sources.
Amazon doesn't publish a words-per-page figure. Authors comparing their word counts with their KENPC report roughly 170 to 200 words per KENP page for text-only books, which is what the calculator uses for its rough estimate.
How KDP Select pays per page read
When you enroll a Kindle ebook in KDP Select, it joins Kindle Unlimited. Each month Amazon sets the size of the KDP Select Global Fund and announces it in the KDP community forum. Your share depends on your pages read compared with everyone else's.
- First reads only. You're paid for the pages a customer reads the first time, however often they reread the book.
- A cap per reader. You can earn for up to 3,000 pages per title per customer.
- A rate that changes every month. Divide your KENP royalty by your pages read in a past report to see what your rate was.
KDP's own illustration: with a $10 million fund and 100 million pages read in a month, a 100-page book read in full 100 times earns $1,000. Real funds and rates are different every month.
To compare with selling the book, see the KDP royalty calculator, and for the whole publishing process, how to publish an ebook on Amazon KDP.
KENP examples
Estimating KENPC from a 45,000-word book
At 190 words per KENP page, a 45,000-word text-only ebook comes out at about 237 pages, and anywhere from about 225 to 265. Amazon sets the real figure when you enroll.
100 readers, a 250-page book, each reading 70%
That's about 17,500 pages read in the month. Multiply by the month's KENP rate from your KDP reports to see the estimate; the calculator does it for you once you add the rate.
A box set longer than 3,000 pages
A 3,600-page box set read in full by one customer earns for 3,000 pages, not 3,600, because KDP pays for up to 3,000 pages per title per customer.

What is KENP?
KENP means Kindle Edition Normalized Pages: the pages Kindle Unlimited readers read in your book, counted with standard formatting settings so a page is the same size on every device. KDP pays authors in KDP Select from its monthly fund based on KENP read.
What is KENPC and how is it set?
KENPC is your book’s Kindle Edition Normalized Page Count, its length in KENP. Amazon calculates it from your ebook using standard font, line height and spacing, counting from the start of the main content to the end, images and charts included. You can see it on the Promote and Advertise page in your KDP Bookshelf.
What is the KENP rate per page?
It’s the amount paid per page read, and it changes every month with the size of the KDP Select Global Fund and the total pages read. KDP doesn’t publish it on its help pages; it shows the rate in your Royalties Estimator under KDP Reports. That’s why the calculator asks you for it instead of guessing.
How do I estimate my KENPC from word count?
Divide your word count by about 190. Authors report roughly 170 to 200 words per KENP page for text-only books, so treat it as a rough guide. Images and long words push the count up. The real number appears in KDP once you enroll.
Is KDP Select worth it?
It depends on your book and your readers. KDP Select adds your ebook to Kindle Unlimited, where you earn from pages read, and gives you promotions like free days and Kindle Countdown Deals. In return the ebook must be exclusive to Amazon. Books that suit binge readers, like genre fiction and series, often do well in it; if most of your sales come from other stores, exclusivity may cost you more than it pays.
Do I have to be exclusive to Amazon?
For the ebook, yes, while it’s enrolled. Each KDP Select enrollment lasts 90 days and renews automatically unless you turn renewal off; during that time the ebook can only be distributed through KDP (public libraries are the one exception). Print, audio and other formats can be sold anywhere.
