Amazon Book Sales Calculator
Turn a book’s Amazon Best Sellers Rank into a rough range of daily and monthly sales, and royalties.
A rough guide, not a count. Amazon doesn’t publish sales or how rank is worked out, and the public estimates behind this range differ by several times at some ranks. Rank moves through the day, so check it over a few days and use a typical figure. Amazon doesn’t say whether Kindle Unlimited borrows count toward rank; if your book is in Kindle Unlimited, part of what the rank reflects may be borrows, which pay per page read.
Add your list price to estimate royalties.
Estimates as of 2026-10-04, from Kindlepreneur sales rank calculator and TCK Publishing book sales calculator. Amazon.com only. Paperback royalties assume a trim size up to 6.12 x 9 in. Nothing you type is stored.
How to use the Amazon book sales calculator
- Find the rank. On the book’s Amazon.com page, look under Product details for Best Sellers Rank. Use the overall number, like “#25,000 in Kindle Store” or “in Books”, not a category rank.
- Pick the format. The Kindle ebook and the paperback each have their own rank, so check the one you want.
- Read the range. You get sales a day and a month, low to high, with the middle estimate in large type. Add a list price to estimate royalties, or switch to Sales to rank to see the rank a sales goal needs.
What Amazon Best Sellers Rank means
Best Sellers Rank compares a book’s customer activity with every other book in the store. Rank #1 has the most. According to KDP:
- It’s relative. Your rank can move even when your sales don’t, because other books’ sales change.
- Recent sales count most, but a book’s whole history counts too. One sale barely moves a popular book, while one sale can lift a slow seller a long way.
- It updates at least once a day, and changes can take up to 2 days to show.
- Each format has its own rank: ebook, paperback, hardcover and audiobook.
- Free downloads don’t count toward the paid rank, and neither do canceled orders.
KDP also says rank isn’t an accurate way to track your own sales. For your own books, your KDP reports give the real numbers. Where rank helps is giving a rough idea of how other books are selling.
How accurate BSR sales estimates are
Amazon doesn’t publish sales figures or how rank is calculated, so every rank-to-sales figure is an estimate. This calculator combines two recent public estimates, from Kindlepreneur (updated 2026-07-14, using Publisher Rocket data) and TCK Publishing (updated 2025-06-13). It shows the range between them, widened to at least 1.5 times either side of the middle where they agree closely.
For Kindle ebooks around rank 1,000 to 10,000 the two are close, about 1.8 times apart at most. Past rank 200,000 they drift apart, by about 3 times at rank 1,000,000 for Kindle and 11 times for paperbacks, so treat estimates for slow sellers as very rough.
To get a better reading:
- Check the rank over a few days and use a typical figure, not one high or low moment.
- Think about Kindle Unlimited. Amazon doesn’t say whether borrows count toward rank. If a book is in Kindle Unlimited, some of what its rank reflects may be borrows, which pay per page read: see the KENP calculator.
- Use it for Amazon.com only. We found no recent, documented estimates for other Amazon stores, so the calculator doesn’t guess them.

Amazon sales rank examples
A Kindle ebook ranked #25,000
About 7.7 sales a day (5.1 to 12), or about 231 a month. At $4.99 with the 70% royalty, that’s $3.39 a sale and about $781 a month, somewhere from $521 to $1,172.
A paperback ranked #150,000
About 0.5 sales a day (0.2 to 1.1), or about 14 a month. A 200-page black ink paperback at $14.99 earns $5.59 a sale after $3.40 printing, so about $78 a month.
Aiming for 10 Kindle sales a day
That takes a rank of about #17,257, somewhere from #9,328 to #30,000 depending on the estimate. Held for a month, it’s about 300 sales.

What is a good Amazon sales rank for a book?
There’s no official line, and it depends on your goals. As a rough guide from public estimates, a Kindle ebook ranked around 100,000 sells about 1.1 a day, around 10,000 about 14 a day, and around 1,000 about 106 a day. At $4.99 and 70%, one sale a day is about $102 a month.
How is Amazon sales rank calculated?
Amazon doesn’t publish the formula. KDP says rank is based on a book’s customer activity compared with other books, with recent activity counting most and its whole history counting too. Canceled orders and free downloads don’t count toward the paid rank, and each format has its own rank.
How many sales does a BSR of 100,000 mean?
Roughly 1.1 a day for a Kindle ebook (0.7 to 1.6 across the estimates) and roughly 1.3 a day for a paperback (0.8 to 1.9). That’s about 33 and 38 a month. Treat it as a rough guide: Amazon doesn’t publish sales.
Why does my rank change during the day?
Because rank is relative. Every book’s activity changes all the time, so your rank can rise or fall even when your own sales don’t. For a slow-selling book, one sale can lift the rank a long way, and it then drifts down until the next sale. KDP says ranks update at least once a day, and changes can take up to 2 days to show.
Is category rank different from overall rank?
Yes. Best Sellers Rank is the book’s place in the whole Kindle Store or Books store. Category ranks compare it only with books in up to three category lists, so a book can be #1 in a small category with a much lower overall rank. Use the overall rank in this calculator. In the Books store, category ranks combine all of a title’s formats; Kindle Store category ranks count only the ebook.
