KDP Keyword Generator
Get seven keyword phrases for your Amazon KDP listing, following KDP’s own keyword guidance.
How to use the KDP keyword generator
Describe your book in a few sentences and add the title, so the keywords don’t repeat it. You get seven keyword phrases, one for each box in KDP, with the kind of shopper each one reaches. Copy them one by one or all at once.
Where they go in KDP
In KDP, open your book’s Details page and find Keywords. There are seven boxes; put one phrase in each.
KDP’s keyword rules
Amazon’s own guidance, which the generator follows:
- Up to seven keywords or short phrases. Phrases of two or three words work best.
- Don’t repeat your title, subtitle, author name or categories. They’re already searchable, so a keyword that repeats them is a wasted box.
- No subjective claims (“best”, “amazing”), time-sensitive words (“new”, “on sale”) or words every book shares (“book”, “ebook”).
- Don’t use other authors’ names, brands you don’t own, or Amazon program names like Kindle Unlimited or KDP Select.
- No quotation marks, and no spelling, spacing or plural variants of the same phrase.
Think like a shopper: what would they type before they knew your book existed? The problem (“stop overspending”), the reader (“first time manager”), the setting (“small apartment garden”) and the format (“workbook”, “recipes”) all make good keywords.
Pair them with the right categories, and see the full KDP publishing guide.
KDP keyword examples
A gluten-free baking guide for beginners
“celiac disease cookbook”, “wheat free breads cakes cookies”, “newly diagnosed gluten intolerance recipes”: the reader’s situation, not the title again.
A remote-team handbook for new managers
“new manager training”, “virtual team management”, “first time supervisor guide”: the searches people make before they know the title.
A budgeting workbook
“stop overspending money”, “zero based budget planner”, “pay off debt workbook”: the problem, the method and the format.

Is it free?
Yes. You can run the generators a few times a day without an account. Making a whole book in the Koobe studio is free too: your first book is on us.
How many keywords can I add in KDP?
Seven keywords or short phrases, one per box. KDP recommends phrases of two or three words, and each box has a character limit.
Can I change my keywords later?
Yes. Edit them on your book’s Details page in KDP; changes go live after review, usually within a few days.
Should my keywords repeat my title?
No. KDP already indexes your title, subtitle, author name and categories, so repeating them wastes a box. Use the keywords for searches the title doesn’t cover.
