How to make a 3D book mockup

  1. Upload your flat cover: the front cover only, as a JPG, PNG or WebP, ideally at least 1,000 px wide. It's drawn in your browser and never uploaded.
  2. Pick a mockup: a standing paperback, a hardcover with page edges, a tablet screen, a two-book stack, or the cover flat with a soft shadow.
  3. Choose the angle and finish: turn it left to show the spine or right to show the page edges, then set the background, shadow, page color and spine color. The spine color is taken from your cover's edge unless you pick one.
  4. Download a PNG (transparent if you like) or a JPG, 1,200, 2,000 or 3,000 px wide, and copy the suggested alt text.

If your image isn't book-shaped, the tool offers to crop it to the center or fit it with padding. Every shape, shadow and page edge is drawn by Koobe, so you can use the mockup commercially.

Where to use your mockup

  • Sales pages and store listings you control, like Gumroad, Payhip, Etsy or your website. A 3D book reads as a real product at a glance.
  • Lead magnet sign-up pages, where a mockup makes a free ebook feel worth the email address. See how 10 real sign-up and sales pages show their ebook.
  • Emails and newsletters, announcing a launch or a discount.
  • Social posts and ads, where a transparent PNG drops onto any background.
  • Media kits and your author website.

Retailers like Amazon, Apple Books and Kobo want the flat cover file for the book itself, not a mockup, so keep mockups for marketing. To check your flat cover's size for each store, use the ebook cover size guide. Need the cover first? The AI ebook cover generator designs one, and our guide covers how to design an ebook cover.

Cover mockup examples

A paperback for a sales page

A 1,600 x 2,560 px cover as a standing paperback turned left, so the spine shows in a color taken from the cover’s edge. Saved as a 2,000 px transparent PNG to place on any page.

A lead magnet in an email

The same cover on a tablet screen with a light gradient background, saved as a 1,200 px JPG: small enough for an email, sharp enough for retina screens.

A box set for social media

A two-book stack on a dark gradient with a strong shadow, saved at 3,000 px so it stays crisp when cropped for Instagram or a banner.

Is my cover uploaded to a server?

No. Your image is read and drawn by your browser, on your device, and it never leaves it. Nothing is stored, and closing the page clears it.

What size should my cover be?

At least 1,000 px wide, and ideally the full-size cover you’d give a store, like 1,600 x 2,560 px. Larger images give sharper mockups, especially at the 3,000 px export size. Very large images are scaled down to keep the tool fast.

Can I get a transparent background?

Yes. Choose the transparent background and download a PNG. JPG files can’t be transparent, so if you pick JPG the mockup is saved on white.

Can I use the mockups for commercial use?

Yes. The book shapes, shadows, page edges and backgrounds are all drawn by Koobe’s own code, with no stock mockup files, so you can use your mockups on sales pages, ads and anywhere else. You still need the rights to the cover artwork itself.

Can I make a mockup of a print book?

Yes. The paperback, hardcover and stack mockups all show a printed book, with white or cream page edges. For the print cover file itself, with spine and back, use the KDP cover template generator.
